Who has lived at the Joseph B. Shultz house?

We have made quite a bit of progress in the past few weeks coming up with a chronology of the various occupants of the house since it was first built in 1853. It is not completely certain that Joseph Shultz ever really lived here. It is certain that he misplaced his deed for the property, and even though he built it, there is no record of that in any of the official papers.

It is more certain that the second owner, Dr. William T. Elston, did in fact live here. He died in 1873, and over the next seven years the abstract shows the property, in little pieces, under a variety of owners.

In 1880, though, it was deeded over to Gustave Evert, and there is little doubt that he and his family ran the Evert House here at least until the turn of the century. They owned it for many years after that.

Working back the other way, the last person to live here was Floyd Wireman. He bought the house in 1985 and lived here until his death in 1998.

Before that, Charlie and Vesta Hall lived here from the late forties until Mrs. Hall moved out in the mid-1980s. They owned it from 1955 to 1985.

Bayard Planck was the owner ahead of them. He purchased it from the Evert heirs in 1939, and for most of the time he owned it he rented the house to the Turner family. Meta Schultz was a Turner, and several of her direct descendants live in Medaryville to this day.
